CEO of China Power Group: With increasing energy security challenges, strengthening international green cooperation is particularly urgent.

Jiang Dongqiang, CEO of China Power Group, said at the China Development Forum 2026 in Beijing on March 22 that the global energy security challenges are intensifying, making it particularly urgent to accelerate the diversification of energy layout and strengthen green international cooperation.

Based on China Power Group’s experience in energy transition and green international cooperation, Jiang Dongqiang shared three points:

First, nuclear energy, as a stable and zero-carbon energy source, has outstanding strategic value in energy security and carbon reduction. Since its commissioning, the Daya Bay Nuclear Power Plant has delivered more than 320 billion kilowatt-hours of zero-carbon electricity to Hong Kong. Expanding nuclear power transmission to Hong Kong will provide stronger support for the green transformation of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.

Second, promoting the development of renewable energy in accordance with local conditions is a key path for transnational cooperation, and regional energy security can be effectively enhanced through cross-border energy interconnection.

Third, addressing climate change requires translating carbon reduction targets into actionable pathways for businesses.

Looking to the future, Jiang Dongqiang offered three suggestions: First, deepen green energy cooperation under the Belt and Road Initiative, focusing on emerging markets in Southeast Asia to help relevant countries build clean and low-carbon energy systems; second, leverage Hong Kong’s advantages as a “super-connector” and “super-value-added agent” to link capital with the mainland’s industrial chain and create an international green finance hub; and third, adhere to mutual benefit and win-win cooperation and open collaboration to jointly build a fair, inclusive, and resilient global energy governance system.
