Product Detail
Name: N-Methyldidecylamine
CAS: 7396-58-9
Feature:
N-Methyldidecylamine is a tertiary amine. In the molecule of N-Methyldidecylamine, there are trivalent amines connected with three hydrocarbon groups. N-Methyldidecylamine appears as a clear slightly light yellow liquid with a fishlike odor. It is insoluble in water and has a density less than that of water. So it floats on the water. Contact with it may irritate skin, eyes and mucous membranes. It may be toxic if ingested, inhaled or absorbed through the skin. N-Methyldidecylamine is used in the manufacture of other chemicals. Dimethyldecyl tertiary amine neutralizes the acid in an exothermic reaction to form a salt and water. It may be incompatible with isocyanates, halogenated organics, peroxides, phenols (acidic), epoxides, acid anhydrides and acid halides. If it combined with strong reducing agents such as hydrides it may produce flammable gaseous hydrogen.
N-Methyldidecylamine is very versatile. It can be used as a component of formulated products and as an intermediate product of various special chemical derivatives. It is an important raw material for the production of quaternary ammonium salts.
N-Methyldidecylamine has the following applications/functions:
1. N-Methyldidecylamine is the main raw material for the production of cationic quaternary ammonium salt, which can be reacted with benzylchloride to produce double-chain benzyl quaternary ammonium salt D1017. N-Methyldidecylamine is widely used in the industry of disinfectant and the bactericide. When used as a disinfectant, it can be used to control microbial pests on hard surfaces or clothing.
2. N-Methyldidecylamine can react with quaternized raw materials such as methyl chloride to form double-chain quaternary ammonium salt D1021. N-Methyldidecylaminee can be used as softener and surfactant, it is used in water treatment, veterinary medicine, disinfectant, oil field, textile, daily chemical and other industries.
3. N-Methyldidecylamine can also react with dimethyl sulfate and diethyl sulfate to form gemini quaternary ammonium salt.

N-Methyldidecylamine Chemical Properties,Uses,Production
Uses
N-?Methyldidecylamine is a reagent used in the synthesis of novel anthraquinone compounds which act as potential anticancer compounds.
General Description
A clear slightly light yellow liquid with a fishlike odor. Insoluble in water and less dense than water. Hence floats on water. Contact may irritate skin, eyes and mucous membranes. May be toxic by ingestion, inhalation or skin absorption. Used to make other chemicals.
Air & Water Reactions
Insoluble in water.
Reactivity Profile
DIDECYLMETHYL AMINE neutralizes acids in exothermic reactions to form salts plus water. May be incompatible with isocyanates, halogenated organics, peroxides, phenols (acidic), epoxides, anhydrides, and acid halides. Flammable gaseous hydrogen may be generated in combination with strong reducing agents, such as hydrides.
Health Hazard
TOXIC; inhalation, ingestion or skin contact with material may cause severe injury or death. Contact with molten substance may cause severe burns to skin and eyes. Avoid any skin contact. Effects of contact or inhalation may be delayed. Fire may produce irritating, corrosive and/or toxic gases. Runoff from fire control or dilution water may be corrosive and/or toxic and cause pollution.
Fire Hazard
Combustible material: may burn but does not ignite readily. When heated, vapors may form explosive mixtures with air: indoors, outdoors and sewers explosion hazards. Contact with metals may evolve flammable hydrogen gas. Containers may explode when heated. Runoff may pollute waterways. Substance may be transported in a molten form.
