    Tetradecyl Dimethylamines are a key raw material in the surfactant synthesis field due to their high reactivity and hydrophobicity. The single pair of electrons in the nitrogen atom of its molecule undergoes an addition reaction that opens the ring with the epoxy group on ethylene oxide. By controlling the ethylene oxide dosage, the hydrophilic-lipophilic balance (HLB) of the resulting nonionic surfactant can be precisely controlled. This type of surfactant is able to penetrate the oily layer of detergents quickly when the HLB value falls between 10-13. It emulsifies the oil into tiny droplets that are 0.1-10 microns in size, and then disperses them into water. The cleaning performance is improved by 20-30% when compared with traditional anionic surfactants. The amino group accepts proton in order to form a center cationic, while the carboxyl groups ionize to release anions. The amphoteric betaine surfactant that results maintains its electrical neutrality in the pH range 3-12, and is stable even when water has high calcium and magnesium ion levels (above 500 ppm). Its skin irritation level is one-fifth of that of anionic surfactants. It is therefore widely used in baby shower gels and wipes.

    Tetradecyl Dimethylamines are used in textile printing and dyeing for their antistatic and softening properties. This is due to the directional adsorption and polarity regulation by amine groups. The C12-14 alkyl chain adheres tightly to the surface of the fabric due to van der Waals force, forming an approximately 5-nanometer thick lubricating layer. The friction coefficient for cotton fabrics is reduced from 0.6 down to 0.3. This results in a much softer, smoother fabric. After 50 washings, the softness of the fabric is still at least 80%. In humid environments, the amine group absorbs water molecules, forming an insulating layer which reduces the surface resistance of chemical fiber fabrics to less than 108O. This reduces static electrical accumulation, eliminates problems like fiber entanglement during processing and uneven dyeing, and increases the yield of printed or dyed products between 15% and 20%.

    Its dual function in the metalworking industry makes it an effective corrosion inhibitor and solvent. Tetradecyl Dimethylamines, when used as a corrosion inhibiter, forms a protective film by binding to the active sites of metal surfaces through coordination bonds. Steel corrosion can be reduced to 0.05mm/year in cutting fluids that have a pH between 6-9. This extends the protection period for rust to over 30 days. The long-chain alkyl group is oriented towards the oil phase, and the polar amino groups are oriented towards the water phase when used as an emulsifier. The mineral oil and the water in the cutting liquid form a stable O/W (oil-water) emulsion by reducing the interfacial oil tension from 30mN/m down to 5mN/m. This improves the cooling and lubrication properties of the emulsion. Tetradecyl Dimethylamines in high-speed cutting can increase tool life by 25-30%, and reduce surface roughness of the workpiece from Ra1.6 down to Ra0.8.
